A Boston Love Story: Tying the Knot at Fernhill House Hotel

A Boston Love Story: Tying the Knot at Fernhill House Hotel

Stephanie and Robbie met in Finn McCool's pub in Boston. After a corporate 5K, a work party was held downstairs in the bar for those who had participated earlier in the day. Robbie ran the 5K, while Stephanie attended for the free food and drinks. Robbie's soon-to-be manager challenged him to a game of skee ball, and later, Stephanie invited him to a game of pool, which she won. Robbie admitted he thought that was pretty cool, and Stephanie mentioned that she liked the way he talked. They chatted until the bar closed, and continued their conversation outside on the greenway near the waterfront in Boston. Eventually they left to get ready for work the next morning, having realized they would be working together.

Over the summer they spent many days together, getting to know each other and creating lasting memories. When the summer came to an end and Robbie was preparing to return to Ireland, he asked Stephanie to be his girlfriend. She initially said no, but that obviously didn't last.

Morning of wedding

The proposal was a whirlwind, much like most things the couple did. Over brunch, they simultaneously decided that they truly wanted to be married, and that was it. The finer details, like the ring, came later. They crafted a ring together, and one day, while cooking dinner at home, Robbie got down on one knee with their pup Albie by his side and asked Steph to marry him.

Bridal Party

Planning a wedding from Boston, they knew they needed a venue that was experienced in hosting weddings. The venue needed to be beautiful, and accommodating to their friends and family, particularly international guests. Clonakilty was well suited to this and gave their guests the opportunity to experience a taste of West Cork.

Outdoor Ceremony

The Fernhill gardens really sold it for them. They were exactly what the couple had in mind. With the option of the Marquee, if it rained on their special day, they felt safe knowing there were contingency options if the weather turned. After their initial meeting with Ann, Fernhill's wedding coordinator, they could tell that Fernhill were the experts they needed. This was only confirmed further by friends and family who had attended weddings in Fernhill. Planning their wedding from Boston, it put them as ease to know their wedding was in great hands.

Wedding Speech in Marquee

However they did not have to worry - the day was absolutely perfect with lots of sunshine and blue skies. The wedding was held in the beautiful gardens of Fernhill. They chose stunning wildflowers from West Cork Flowers that made the gardens feel like a fairytale. The smooth transition from the drinks reception to speeches and onto dinner and then dancing was effortless.

Their vision really came to life and it truly gave them the feeling that it was their special day. Their guests, the weather and Fernhill brought their A-game. "We will cherish these memories for a lifetime"

Fernhill First Dance

Looking back, Stephanie said "The Fernhill staff have so many great recommendations and have so much experience to help guide you. Fernhill provides you with Moposa a wedding planning tool, that really helped us stay organized and on top of things"

Her number one tip? "Everyone at your wedding is wishing the best for you and it is not often that you get to feel that much love and encouragement in one room, soak it in" Enjoy as much of the day together because it goes by SO fast"

As for a honeymoon to relax after all the wedding planning, they traveled to St. Lucia 2 months after the wedding.

Sending Stephanie and Robbie all our love and best wishes for a happy and fulfilling marriage.
