A Clonakilty Summer Garden Party Wedding at Fernhill House - Colleen & Simon

A Clonakilty Summer Garden Party Wedding at Fernhill House - Colleen & Simon

We all love a good fairy tale story & this one nearly includes a fairy tale castle proposal – nearly! Colleen tells us how a night out in Naas set off sparks between herself & Simon, ‘the guy with the nice smile’! Twelve years later on a weekend break in Munich Simon planned a secret proposal with Colleen nearly finding the rings in his bag. ‘We were visiting Neuschwanstein Castle as it’s a really beautiful fairy tale looking castle and a place I’d always wanted to see.  But when we got there it was mobbed with tourists and he couldn’t find a quiet spot to ask as he knew I wouldn’t like anything too public.  So, when we got back to the city, he decided to go to plan B and bring me to the Englischer Gardens, a beautiful Central Park style park in Munich city, and propose there’, and the rest as they say, is history.

We asked Colleen what made Fernhill House the venue for them: ‘Because we were not having a church wedding, we wanted a venue where if we were having the whole day there, it wouldn’t feel like we were in the one place for the whole thing.  The set up in Fernhill was perfect for us as we had the ceremony in the beautiful garden ceremony area, the drinks reception in the gorgeous garden marquee and then the meal and dancing in the main function room.  So, the whole day had the convenience of being in the one place (which our guests loved too) but it had the feel of being in many different beautiful places.  We had been to a few weddings as guests in Fernhill and so we knew how reliable they were in terms of delicious food and excellent service and management of the day.  It was also very reassuring to know that they had excellent contingency plans should the weather have not worked out for holding our outdoor garden ceremony’. The couple enjoyed a fantastic summer’s day in our gardens enjoyed their ceremony in our heavenly Wedding Ceremony Garden and then drinks reception in our world class garden marquee.

Colleen & Simon’s advice to future Fernhill brides and grooms is to remember that:  "Wedding planning only has to be as difficult as you make it” and if you are planning your day in Fernhill you can rest assured that it need not be too complicated at all to plan.  Because everything is already there and set up so beautifully there.  And the staff, management and wonderful wedding planner Ann are all seasoned pros, so you really can just relax and enjoy the day because, and I know it sounds cliché, the day really does go by so fast.  You need to enjoy and take in every minute.’

Thank you to Colleen and Simon for hosting their big day here at Fernhill. We hope you both had a fantastic honeymoon in Canada and we hope to see you again very soon.
