Jungle City
In 2012 Clonakilty became the first and only Irish 'Jungle City'. This is a large - scale outdoor art exhibition that involves the creation & permanent installation of 30 beautifully and brightly painted, life - sized endangered animal sculptures around the town. Jungle City celebrates the magnificence of the world's most spectacular yet endangered wildlife, generating awareness of their plight and making everyone smile at the same time. Fountains, park benches, pavements and traffic lights will become perches, watering holes, hunting and grazing grounds.
Autism Friendly Town
Clonakilty was the first autism friendly town in Ireland with autism - friendly shopping options and sensory boxes in some stores & buildings, alongside quiet spaces and other initiatives. Autism - friendly organisations display stickers on the entrance to their premises as well as a service - dog friendly sticker to signal that they welcome service dogs on their premises. To date, 212 organisations have been accredited, with more organisations in the process of being designated 'Autism Friendly Champions'.
Clonakilty Community Cycle Scheme
This is Ireland's first rural community bike rental scheme. It was recognised at the Sustainable Energy Awards and is now used as an example in community based projects throughout Ireland & Europe.
